"How B Squared Came To Be"

It’s usually hard to write a history of something that is currently ongoing with the plans to get larger. However, it’s worth a shot to tell the story of B Squared, which all started with an entry on a popular blog website LiveJournal.com.

In June 2007, co-founders Morgan Barnhart and Quinten Boyd decided to collaborate on a voice acting project based on the Soul Calibur video game series. While planning the ins and outs of their radioplay series, the two started to talk and decided to pool their collective talent to first create a blog and a podcast series for amateur voice actors. This podcast, which would soon fall under the name Take Three, is still going strong and is the catalyst for what would become B Squared.

In August of 2007, Barnhart and Boyd decided to create their own production company. Both being members of the Voice Acting Alliance and seeing the connections they could make with other amateur voice actors (AVAs), they wanted to start creating their own productions under one umbrella. Hence, B Squared was formed from these humble beginnings.

The two weren’t happy with just releasing radioplays and discussions then started to make plans to expand B Squared to include more projects as well as more AVAs. In October of 2007, B Squared made the initial decision to add fandubs to their production scheme. In order to do that, Barnhart and Boyd needed a third musketeer. They would find one in fellow AVA and producer Czarina Galac.

With the duo becoming a trio, B Squared would spend the rest of 2007 and a large portion of 2008 releasing popular original radioplays such as Anti-Glory, Dodging Raindrops, Mirror Image and The Limit. In addition, B Squared has also produced radioplays based on video games such as Soul Calibur: Journey of Souls and Wild ARMs 4: The Radioplay. B Squared has also released several one-shots such as Broken and My Mother, Yellow Harvest.

A production company is only as good as the people who work for it, and all three initial members of B Squared will happily admit that they could not do what they do without awesome AVAs, animators, web designers and producers. It’s the people who make B Squared what it is and, hopefully, what it will become.

In 2009 and beyond, B Squared Productions hopes to expand to include various creative endeavors, not simply those that revolve around voice acting.

Consider this history unfinished. As said in the B Squared freestyle, “you’re about to hear a lot more from us at B Squared.”
